On the night of February 6th, 2023, a community in Zomba, Malawi, was shocked by the brutal murder of Precious Mussa.

The 22-year-old was caught stealing green maize in a maize field owned by Malita Likaka, a 28-year-old woman.

As soon as the suspect shouted for help, a group of villagers rushed to the scene, including Likaka herself.

Unfortunately, rather than call the police or seek legal justice, the mob descended on Mussa with extreme violence.

According to Aaron Chilala, the deputy spokesperson for Zomba Police, Mussa was heavily assaulted by the mob before being left unconscious in the field.

A report was received by the police, who rushed to the scene to find Mussa in a critical condition. He was immediately taken to Pirimiti hospital, but tragically he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

After a thorough investigation, police arrested Malita Likaka in connection with the murder. She was among the group of villagers who had attacked Mussa, and it is believed that she played a role in his death.

The postmortem examination revealed that Mussa had died due to severe head injuries secondary to assault.
