28 year old man takes own life in Rumphi over debt

A 28 year old man has died by suicide at Golodi Bend number 4 in Rumphi after failing to settle a loan amounting to one million six hundred and seventy eight thousand Kwacha.

The deceased has been identified as Success Msiska.

Police spokesperson in the district Sergeant Tupeliwe Kabwilo said Msiska left his home on January 1, 2023 to unknown destination and was found hanging yesterday.

According to Kabwilo, the deceased took a loan from microfinance organization called Livingstonia Synod AIDS Program (LISAP).

Medical report from Livingstonia David Gordon Mission Hospital confirmed that death was due to suffocation following hanging.

Police in the district have urged community member to manage their finances by not over borrowing and to avoid taking own lives.

The deceased hailed from Mwabanga village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachulu in Rumphi.
