Kanengo police in Lilongwe is keeping in custody a 25-year-old man, Tawakali Mponda for allegedly raping a 45-year-old woman.

On 13, February 2023 the accused person went to the lodge where the victim was working and he demanded money from her but after she refused to give him the money, Mponda pushed her and raped her.

Spokesperson for Kanengo Police, Sub Inspector Gresham Ngwira has said that some well-wishers who came to the victim’s rescue reported the matter to Kanengo Police Station.

Ngwira said Mponda, who is also technical college student in the city, is being charged with rape contrary to section 132 of the Country’s Penal Code.

Mponda hails from Nkhono Village, Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota.
