A 20-year-old lady, Vanessa Matiki has been arrested in Lilongwe where she was allegedly posing as a nurse and a Criminal Investigation Officer -CID officer.

Kanengo Police Publicist Gresham Ngwira said the suspect, while posing as a nurse, has been stealing items especially cell phones from people.

On one occasion, Matiki agreed to buy a cellphone from an unsuspecting victim having cheated him that she was working at DeaYang Hospital as a nurse.

After taking the cell phone, Matiki asked the owner to wait for her as she went inside the said hospital promising to return shortly but she never did.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, the lady agreed with one of the men she had previously duped but this time she told him that she was a CID officer working at Kanengo Police Station.

The two agreed to meet at Engen Filling Station where as soon as they met, the man apprehended her.

He said they law enforcers recovered five cellphones she stole in this way and many more are expected to be recovered as investigations continue.

Matiki hails from Kaphaizi village, Traditional Authority Mangwazu in Kasungu and is expected to appear in court soon.
