Police in Mchinji District have arrested two people for allegedly kidnapped and killed a 1 year-old baby boy Chisomo Sungani.
Mchinji Police publicist Limbani Mpinganjira, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspects as Freckson Lebiyamu aged 60 and Kilinto Eliyasi, 48.
According to Mpinganjira, the two committed the crime in March, 2022 at Makhuma Village, Traditional Authority M’duwa in the district.
It is being reported that the two suspects, were grandfather and uncle to the murdered boy, and on the stated date, the two connived to take Chisomo from the company of his peers when he was playing around his home, killed him and sold-out the corpse for ritual purposes.
Ignorant of her son’s fate, the mother kept searching in all imaginable spots upon noticing that her son was missing.
Peers to the deceased revealed that they had seen the young boy with his uncle, Eliyasi, who took him along to an unknown destination.
The matter was reported to the Village Headman who, in turn, took it to Mikundi Police Unit and investigations were instituted leading to arrest them.
The two, are soon expected to appear in court soon to answer charges leveled against them.
Both Kilinto and Freckson hails from Makhamu village Traditional Authority Mduwa in the district.
