2 men arrested for stealing legalized industrial hemp in Mchinji

Police in Mchinji have arrested two men, Adriano Mtilatila, 27, and Hopeson Matekwe, 26, for allegedly stealing 30 kilograms of legalized industrial hemp from a research site warehouse.

Mchinji police Public Relations Officer, Limbani Mpinganjira said Police established that in early January this year, the two were assigned to some other pieces of work at the warehouses belonging to Legalized Industrial Hemp Cooperative Association in the district where the hemp and other assorted farm produce are stored pending market.

As put by Mpinganjira, on 27th January 2024, Warehouse Clerk observed a dwindle in quantity of the stored cartons of hemp in the warehouse.

“The matter was reported to police where investigations were launched, leading to the arrest of Mtilatila and Matekwe and the recovery of 1.6 kilograms of hemp has been made,” said Mpinganjira.

Adrian Mtilatila hails from Bauleni Village in Traditional Authority Chiseka while Hopeson Matekwe comes from Chileka Village in Traditional Authority Kalolo, both from Lilongwe District.
