2 arrested over burglary, motorcycle theft, in Lilongwe

Police at Mitundu in Lilongwe are keeping in custody two men, Swali James, 40, and Jubeki Lifati, 20, for breaking into a house and steal a motorcycle worth K1.7 million on October 3, 2023 at Mbuto Village in Traditional Authority Masula in the district.

On the day of the incident during night time, the suspects broke into the house of Paul Kalinde, 28, and stole the motorcycle three days after the owner had purchased the same.

And few days later, Mitundu Police got information that the suspects travelled all the way from Mitundu, Lilongwe, on the same machine, and were offering for sale the motorcycle in Kasungu.

The suspicion that the motorcycle was stolen came about after the suspects were tight-lipped to give convincing explanation to potential buyers who requested papers for the same.

The suspects who were arrested in Kasungu over the weekend, will appear in court soon to face burglary and theft charges.

Swali James hails from Malanga Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Masula, whilst Jubeki Lifati comes from Liwiro Village, T/A Chadza, both in Lilongwe District.
