2 Arrested For Theft Of Escom Cables In Kawale

Kawale Police is keeping in custody two young men suspected to have stolen Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (escom) cables in Kawale.

Kawale Police Publicist, Sub-inspector Mabvuto Phiri has identified the suspects as Solomon Tomasi (36) and Lightwell Nyasulu (27) got arrested following an alert of vandalism and theft of escom cables at Full Gospel church and Bunda roadblock.

According to Sub-inspector Phiri, on Saturday, April 9,2022 community members around Full Gospel church apprehended Tomasi after they caught him red handed cutting the escom cables

“Further investigations uncover the second suspect and another spot that was hit previously at China company near bunda roadblock.

“On Sunday, April 10, 2022 the station detectives made breakthrough that led to partly recovery of the items and arrest of the second accomplice in the comfort of his home,” added Phiri.

Meanwhile the suspects are still in police custody and will appear in court soon to answer the charge leveled against them, according to Phiri.

Tomasi hails from Munkhonje Village Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe while Nyasulu comes from Chisoti Village in Traditional Authority Mwamlowe in Rumphi District.
