Police in Nkhotakota are keeping in custody a 19-year-old for allegedly, concealing birth of her child.

Spokesperson for Nkhotakota Police Station, Sergeant Paul Malimwe has identified the woman as Agness Andrew of Yotamu Village in the area of Senior Chief Mwansambo in the district.

Malimwe  explained that on Friday, at around 4 pm, the suspect complained of abdominal pains and was rushed to Mwansambo Health Center where she was admitted to.

“Her mother went home to collect some clothes, to her surprise, she discovered a dead baby, wrapped in a plastic bag”, he said.

According to Malimwe, the body of the baby boy, was found in the suspect’s bedroom and was later taken to the same health facility, where medical personnel confirmed that she had just given birth.

Agness Andrew will appear before court soon.
