Jenda police spokesperson Macfaren Mseteka identified the deceased as Kellness Kajani, a 16-year-old girl in form 1 at Robert Laws secondary school.

On Christmas day, Kajani allegedly left home in the morning for a drinking spree with friends and returned close to midnight.

Kajani’s mother was displeased with her excessive drinking and advised her to stop, leading to a dispute.

Despite the mother’s advice, the situation escalated, and on Boxing Day, Kajani packed her clothes as if intending to go to her uncle’s.

Tragically, later in the evening, Kajani’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a tree near her home in Mqocha, Mzimba.
